A shift handover notes app for the plant floor
Who carries it: Shift supervisor
A night shift on a packaging line is downtime causes, quality holds, and safety observations — spoken at the machine, retyped from memory at 6 a.m. An AI voice recorder for manufacturing changes the handoff: hold the button when the line stops, say what happened, and the shift summary drafts itself, with open actions carried to the next shift instead of lost between them.
The night shift's context should not reset at 6am.

When a shift supervisor presses it
- Shift handoffs
- downtime cause narration
- safety observations
- quality holds
“Night-shift supervisor on a packaging line; log downtime causes and handoff items.”
A context like this — typed once into the app — is how chit stops being a generic recorder and starts being yours.
Shift summary auto-drafted; actions carried to the next shift.
Shift handoffs and downtime causes captured on the floor, resident in your own VPC.
Plant data resident in your own VPC - non-negotiable for most manufacturers.
The handoff between shifts is a spoken document
Everything a plant needs to know at 11pm is in a conversation between two supervisors that nobody writes down: what went down, why, what is still holding, what the next shift must not repeat. Say it, and the handoff becomes a record rather than a relay. Downtime causes narrated at the line are more accurate than downtime causes typed at the end of shift, because at the line you still remember which of the four things actually stopped it. Plant deployments keep the data resident in your own VPC — for most manufacturers that is not a preference, it is the condition of the conversation. Quality holds work the same way. The reason a lot was held, spoken at the line by the person who held it, is a materially better record than the reason written into a form by somebody reconstructing it the next morning.

Good questions
Can I log downtime causes without leaving the line?
Yes. Hold chit's one button and narrate the stop — what failed, what you tried, when it ran again — then let go. Each event lands as a timestamped transcript, and the digest of decisions and actions is waiting at end of shift.
How does it help with shift handoffs?
The daily digest lists decisions made, actions open, and promises given during your shift — which is a handoff. The next supervisor gets what stopped, why, and what is still open, instead of whatever survived the whiteboard.
Is it always listening on the floor?
No. chit records only while the button is physically held — no wake word, no always-on mic. On a floor where open microphones are a real concern, nothing captures unless a thumb is on the button.
Does it need Wi-Fi on the plant floor?
No. It records offline and syncs when it next sees a connection, and the battery runs about a month of typical use — it is not one more device on the charger between shifts.
Plant data can't leave our environment — can we still deploy this?
Yes. For plants, chit deploys as a branded device fleet with data resident in your own VPC, so shift narration stays inside your environment. See hichit.com/enterprise, and ask us about compliance deployments.
Recording laws differ by state, and several require every party's consent. chit only captures while the button is held — know your state's rule before recording another person.
