Using your Forma stipend on chit
Forma is the rare case where the category already names the thing. Its Home Office & Connectivity page lists microphones among the everyday tools it funds, and its Professional Development accounts are pitched at AI tools and resources. Whether chit is eligible still comes down to what your employer switched on — but if you have either of those accounts, you are not making an exotic argument.

How to get it covered
Every step below comes from the platform's own documentation, linked beside it, with the date we read it.
- 1
Check what your company funded. Forma's account types include a Work from Home spending account and a Professional Development spending account; which ones you have, and what they cover, is set by your employer.

If you have the Forma Visa Card, you can pay with it directly — Forma says it can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. Most eligible payments auto-adjudicate without a receipt, and Forma asks for one only in what it calls corner cases.

Otherwise pay with your own card and file a claim. Forma's own description of the flow: your company sets the parameters, you buy the item, you upload the receipt through the mobile app or the web portal, and the system reviews it.

Attach the invoice PDF from your chit receipt email and submit. Forma says claims are reviewed in a few short hours, and reimbursement reaches you by payroll or by direct deposit.

What your receipt has to show
Forma asks for a clear receipt showing the purchase date, item description, price, and retailer information.

Elsewhere Forma puts it as date, vendor, items purchased, and total amount. The invoice attached to your chit receipt carries all four, plus the payment method.

Ask your manager
Most people never ask, and the ones who do write it badly — leading with what they want instead of what it does for the work. Fill in two fields and send this.
Hi — I'd like to expense a chit AI voice recorder ($129). It's a card-sized recorder I hold down to capture what was said, and it writes the notes and the follow-ups afterwards. As account executive, most of what I need to write down later gets said out loud first — in meetings, on site, in the car afterwards. This closes the gap between saying it and it being written down, which is where things currently get lost. I'd put it through Forma. I'll have an itemised invoice — merchant, date, line items, total and payment method — so there's nothing outstanding for the receipt. Happy to write up how it goes after a month if that's useful.
Questions
Good questions
Is a voice recorder eligible under a Forma LSA?
That depends on how your employer designed the plan — Forma is explicit that each employer defines its own rules. What we can point at is the category: Forma's Home Office & Connectivity page names microphones among the gadgets it funds, and its Professional Development accounts cover AI tools and resources. Check your plan guidelines in the Forma app before you buy.
Can I just tap the Forma card at checkout?
You can try, and it often works — Forma says the card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. But post-tax accounts can carry merchant restrictions, so a decline is not a verdict on the item. If it declines, pay with your own card and file a claim instead; the receipt we email you is built for that.
What does Forma want on the receipt?
A clear receipt showing the purchase date, item description, price, and retailer information. Your chit receipt email carries an itemised invoice PDF with all of that plus the payment method, which is more than Forma asks for.
How long does the claim take?
Forma says claims are reviewed in a few short hours, and pays out by payroll, by direct deposit for people who cannot wait, or through an automated reimbursement plan for larger purchases. Your employer's payroll cycle usually decides when the money actually lands.
Will I be taxed on it?
Generally yes for a lifestyle spending account — Forma states LSA funds are typically taxable income, subject to federal, state and payroll taxes. Forma also names Section 132 working condition fringe benefits as a route that can be non-taxable, which is the route an expense-policy reimbursement for work equipment runs through. Which applies to you is your employer's call, not ours, and this is not tax advice.

This is general information, not tax advice. How a reimbursement is taxed depends on the plan your employer wrote, and only they — or your own accountant — can tell you which one you are spending from.
